We welcome new people into our sport and run classes for complete beginners at our training venue - Dog Sports Derby in Church Broughton and occasionally at other nearby venues.
Our beginners classes are kept small, with a maximum of six dogs in a class at any one time, and are taken by an experienced agility instructor. Each session lasts for one hour.
No previous agility experience is necessary but dogs must be at least 9 months old, fully vaccinated and have basic obedience. Ideally your dog will have a 'wait' and a 'recall' before you start agility training.
Dogs do not need to be Kennel Club registered to train with us, dogs only need to registered when they come to start competing.
All new Beginners are first asked to attend one of our Agility Foundation Courses. These consist of six one hour lessons and are currently being held on Saturdays in Shardlow. The Foundation Course does not generally include using the agility equipment but will teach the skills and commands that are necessary before starting full agility training.
Once you have completed the Foundation Course you will be invited to join either our Tuesday or Wednesday evening Beginner classes. These classes use the full agility equipment. We have a 7.00pm class and a slightly more advanced 8.15pm class.
Once you are proficient in all the equipment you will then progress to our more advanced classes (see Competition Training) which run alongside the Beginners sessions at Hargate.
Get In Touch
Please get in touch with us through the 'Contact Us' page for more information or to register your interest for our next available Foundation Course.
We currently have a waiting list for places on our Foundation Courses. We run these courses four times a year. Our next course is scheduled to start in May 2022.
Please note that training your dog to do agility takes a lot of time, effort and dedication from both dog and owner. It will probably take at least a year's training to have the confidence to enter a competition.
All our training is with the aim of getting you and your dog up to competition standard. If your ultimate aim isn't to compete with your dog in agility competitions then our training may not be for you.
Classes are charged at £36 per month (four lessons with each lesson being one hour long).
After 24 lessons you will become a full member of the club and will be entitled to reduced rate training fees at £24 per month (£20 concessions). These are subsidised by the club and are subject to our Membership Agreement which includes helping us to run our Annual Agility Show.
